One surprising cut each NFL team could make for 2020

Carolina Panthers: Seth Roberts, Wide Receiver
When Matt Rhule took over as head coach of the Carolina Panthers, they started to make some bold moves. They were moving on from quarterback Cam Newton and watched as Luke Kuechly decided to call it a career. With those players gone, they decided to take their roster-building in a different direction.
They signed Teddy Bridgewater at quarterback, extended Christian McCaffrey and then used their top pick on defensive tackle Derrick Brown. They also added talent to the wide receiver corps, picking up Robby Anderson and Seth Roberts. However, there’s no guarantee Roberts will make the final roster.
He’s behind Anderson, D.J. Moore, and Curtis Samuel. On top of that, he recently suffered a concussion that cost him time in camp. In the end, the Panthers could decide to save more than $3 million by letting him go.
Chicago Bears: Cordarrelle Patterson, Wide receiver
At 35-years of age, Ted Ginn is still going in the NFL. He doesn’t have the same explosiveness he did early in his career but he’s proven that he can stand the test of time and is coming off a 421-yard campaign with the New Orleans Saints. After the Saints elected not to re-sign Ginn, he headed to The Windy City to join the Chicago Bears. He’s also making less than $1 million which is nothing for someone with his experience.
All this is said to point out that Cordarrell Patterson might be vastly overpaid at just over $5.2 million, according to OverTheCap.com. Sure, Patterson offers more as a return man than he does a receiver but that’s a lot of money to justify for someone who is just a specialist.
