Seattle Seahawks: 3 Must-watch games in the 2020 season
By Samuel Teets
The Seattle Seahawks are must-watch football this coming season.
Last year, Pete Carroll’s team came within a few weeks of winning the NFC West title. However, the Seattle Seahawks finished with an 11-5 record and settled for a Wild Card spot. This season, the Seahawks arguably have a better team and should compete for another division crown. Several of the team’s most important matchups could turn into classic games any fan will enjoy.
For the sake of creativity, I limited each team to one appearance. This way, the list isn’t filled mostly by divisional games. The NFC West is the most competitive division in the NFL and could produce up to three playoff teams this season. If not for limiting every team to one entry, this article would rely solely on Seattle’s games against NFC West opponents.
Speaking of NFC West opponents, the Arizona Cardinals do not appear in this article. Seattle faces Arizona in Weeks 7 and 11. While many people jumped on the Cardinals hype train this offseason, I’m not fully buying the Arizona-upstart story. The Cardinals look much better on paper than they were a year ago, but we’ll have to wait and see if they can live up to the hype.
Seattle’s first must-see matchup in 2020 could turn into an offensive shootout.
3. Week 3 vs. Dallas Cowboys
While the Cowboys aren’t always viewed as a formidable team, since they often shoot themselves in the foot, Dallas possesses one of the NFL’s best offenses. After playing Atlanta in Week 1 and the floundering New England Patriots in Week 2, the Seahawks get Dallas at CenturyLink Field. It’s Seattle’s first challenge of the 2020 season.
Jamal Adams and Seattle’s improved secondary face an uphill battle against Dallas’ plethora of receiving threats. Seattle’s unproven defensive line also gets to clash with one of the league’s best offensive lines. The Cowboys provide a perfect challenge for Seattle early in the season. We’ll learn a lot about this edition of the Seahawks from how they perform against a high-power offense.
Ultimately, Russell Wilson is a better quarterback than Dak Prescott, and Carroll is a better coach than Mike McCarthy. Barring an unforeseen turn of events, Seattle should win behind its more reliable leadership structure.
