NFL Predictions: Every team’s MVP for the 2020 season
Detroit Lions: QB Matthew Stafford
The identity of the Detroit Lions for the past decade has been all about Matthew Stafford and their aerial attack. The Lions rely so much on Stafford, at times to their own detriment, that they have only had one 1,000-yard rusher during his career and that was way back in 2013.
There were high hopes for second-round pick Kerryon Johnson but his inability to stay healthy has kept the onus on Stafford to carry the offense and the Lions as a whole. Stafford played in only eight games in 2019 but was his usual box score stuffing self as he threw for 2,499 yards and 19 touchdowns in limited action.
The Lions are in the middle of a reload as they try to rebuild a defense that finished 31st in yards allowed and gave up the 24th most points in the league. While that unit is a work in progress they will still lean on Stafford’s right arm to carry them in a tough division as they try to bounce back from a three-win season.
