NFL Predictions: Every team’s MVP for the 2020 season
San Francisco 49ers: TE George Kittle
In just three years George Kittle has gone from fifth-round afterthought to the unquestioned best tight end in the NFL. Other tight ends might match his receiving ability but none combine explosive offensive ability with the top tier blocking Kittle brings to the table.
The former Iowa Hawkeye is the rare breed of tight end, in the Rob Gronkowski mold, that can catch like a top tier wide receiver and block like a Pro Bowl offensive tackle.
The 49ers recognized his value to the team and rewarded him with a 5-year, $75 million contract making him the highest-paid tight end in the NFL. They are paying him like a wide receiver because that is the type of impact he makes on offense. Defenses game plan around slowing him down but he is just as happy catching touchdowns as he is making pancake blocks to aid SF’s potent running game.
If the 49ers want to overcome the dreaded Super Bowl loser hangover they simply have to follow Kittle’s lead as his drive and intensity will allow him to accept nothing less than the best from himself and his teammates.
