57. . . Previous: 26th. Chicago Bears. 23. team

Where do you put the Chicago Bears in NFL Power Rankings? That’s just about the million-dollar question as this team is near impossible to peg. They’ve consistently been .500 or better over the past few years but there is a dark cloud that hangs over this team that remains in the sky: the quarterback position.

This offseason, Bears general manager Ryan Pace traded for former Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles in hopes of the veteran pushing young Mitchell Trubisky, who struggled mightily in his third season last year, and perhaps being an upgrade over the incumbent to raise the floor of the offense. So what do we make of the fact that Trubisky was named the Week 1 starter?

Frankly, it feels like Pace has backed himself into a corner. There is obvious talent throughout the roster but, until the issue at quarterback is remedied, then this team can only go but so far. And but so far is potentially making the playoffs but not being capable of much more than that.

As long as Khalil Mack and this defense remain part of the mix, the Bears are not going to be a bad team. But it’s hard to consider them close to cracking the top 20 until we see something different from the offense.
