Oh, the Washington Football Team. Whether it was about the name-change or the ongoing reports regarding a completely broken culture within the franchise, it’s been a rough go of it in the nation’s capital thus far in 2020.

At the same time, there are positives about the Football Team right now. Chase Young, the No. 2 overall pick from the 2020 NFL Draft, figures to be an instant-impact rookie on the defensive line. Furthermore, the rest of the defensive line should be the biggest strength of this roster. Then there is excitement about young players like wide receiver Terry McLaurin and running back Antonio Gibson.

While that all may be true, this roster as a whole is in a bit of disarray, largely because they’ve been operating as a rudderless vessel for quite a while. Quarterback Dwayne Haskins faces a crucial year after an up-and-down rookie season but the offensive line has holes and the skill position groups are lacking severely. Meanwhile, the defensive secondary is just as troublesome.

New head coach Ron Rivera, who will be undergoing treatments for cancer throughout the 2020 season, is the right man to steer the ship in Washington in the right direction. And it does feel as if real change is being started with the toxic culture. That, however, doesn’t translate to many wins this year.
