NFL Power Rankings, Week 1: Titans ink Clowney, Chiefs remain clear favorites
It’s just about impossible to find a true weakness on the New Orleans Saints roster coming into the 2020 NFL season. In what could be (and almost surely is) the last hurrah for future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Drew Brees, the roster around him is set up to compete for his second ring and it’s going to be in the cards.
Brees returning at quarterback is obviously the linchpin on offense but the group around him is stout. Michael Thomas needs no introduction but the big news at wide receiver is that Emmanuel Sanders, though no longer in his prime, might be the best No. 2 pass-catcher that Brees and Thomas have played with. Pair that with a top-shelf offensive line and Alvin Kamara and this group is ready to rock.
As for the defense, this group has been steadily on the incline for several years and appears fully formed now, led by Cameron Jordan and Sheldon Rankins up front, Demario Davis at linebacker and the likes of Marshon Lattimore and Marcus Williams in the secondary. Putting up points on New Orleans won’t be a cakewalk.
The only question for the Saints is whether or not they can get it done in the playoffs. Even with the Bucs soaring now, New Orleans is still the favorite in the NFC South and perhaps the conference at large.
