NFL Power Rankings, Week 1: Titans ink Clowney, Chiefs remain clear favorites
What more can be said about the Kansas City Chiefs that hasn’t already been discussed? Patrick Mahomes won NFL MVP in his first full season as the starter in 2018 and followed that up by taking his team to the Super Bowl and hoisting the Lombardi Trophy a year ago. So why would we think that would change heading into the 2020 season?
Kansas City took care of its own throughout the offseason. They inked Mahomes to a record-setting 10-year contract that stole all of the headlines but that wasn’t all. Head coach Andy Reid signed an extension, tight end Travis Kelce landed a new deal and the Chiefs retained stud defensive tackle Chris Jones as well.
If that wasn’t enough, you could make the case that the already-potent offense got more dangerous. Yes, running back Damien Williams opted out of the year but the Chiefs spent their first-round pick on LSU’s Clyde Edwards-Helaire, a higher-ceiling player ideally suited for Reid’s offense.
The champions are the champions until they aren’t anymore. And with the best quarterback in the league, one of the best coaches in the league and game-breaking talent throughout the offense, all signs point to the Chiefs making another legitimate run at the Lombardi Trophy this season.
