Chicago Bears: 5 Bold predictions for Week 1 vs. Lions
1. Trubisky continues his success against the Lions
Mitchell Trubisky already had an eventful 2020. The Bears declined his $24.8 million option and brought Nick Foles in to compete for his starting job. He won the job but knows that if he doesn’t take a big leap in his play Foles can come in and take the job from him.
One thing that could boost Trubisky’s confidence is playing the Lions. After losing his first two career games against Detroit, he hasn’t lost to them in the Nagy era, three straight wins.
He has 1,359 passing yards against them, the most not only against his division rivals but also tops against any team he’s played. He has 11 touchdown passes, almost double of the other two division rivals combined (6). His passer rating of 106.3 is better against the Lions than any other division rival.
As is usually the case with Trubisky, his games against the Lions haven’t always been the prettiest games to watch. In their Thanksgiving Day matchup last season, he threw for 338 yards and three touchdowns. He had a horrible first half, though. Apart from the opening drive, he struggled to move the ball. Things changed in the second half.
Playing the Detroit Lions can shoot Trubisky up and get him off to a good start. That, in turn, ramps up his confidence. If he does that, we might not hear about Foles for a long time.
Prediction: Trubisky throws for 347 yards and 3 touchdowns against 1 interception. He rushes for 32 yards.
