New England Patriots: 3 Biggest surprises from win in Week 1
The biggest surprises from the New England Patriots in their Week 1 triumph.
Going into the first Sunday of the 2020 NFL season, all eyes were on the New England Patriots and how the team would look with a new quarterback under center for the first time since 2000.
With quarterback Cam Newton taking over for the legendary Tom Brady to lead things in this Patriots offense, we got the first look at the team in the season opener on Sunday afternoon at Gillette Stadium.
In his season debut, Newton led the way for New England and looked pretty comfortable on the offensive end of the field for the Patriots to pace his new squad to a 21-11 win over the Miami Dolphins in Foxborough.
In the game, we saw a lot of what we’ve seen out of New England in the past, including a dominant defensive display to go along with a new-look offense with some new weapons. By the end of it, the Patriots were able to get a nice early-season AFC East victory and are rolling going into Week 2 this weekend.
In the game, New England got out to the first lead of the game when Newton used his legs to rush for the first touchdown of the season for New England. The Patriots used that advantage to ride into halftime up 7-3 over Miami.
In the second half, New England continued to display what it did in the first half, with Newton kicking off the scoring in the final two quarters on the ground once again and adding the second rushing touchdown of his Patriots debut.
With the win, the Patriots get the 2020 campaign off on the right foot, getting an early 1-0 jump on the rest of the division early on in the season while returning to action in Week 2 when taking on the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night football on NBC on the road in Seattle.
Now with the season-opening game over and done with, let’s go back and take a look at three of the biggest surprises for New England in the Week 1 victory.
