NFL Power Rankings, Week 2: Cowboys falter, Ravens shine
By Randy Gurzi
The Detroit Lions are the kings of the almost. It seems like year after year they have several games are they almost win. They also have several games a year where they almost lose, but then Matthew Stafford somehow leads them to a heroic comeback. This weekend, it looked like they’re going to start things off with one of those heroic comebacks as Stafford had a great answer to the Bears taking a late lead.
Chicago quarterback Mitchell Trubisky threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Miller with less than two minutes to go in the game, which made it 27-23. Then Detroit got it all the way down to the 16 and Stafford threw a perfect pass to rookie DeAndre Swift, but the running back dropped it and, in the end,, the Bears won it by four.
Trubisky ended up throwing three touchdowns on the game and that had to be frustrating for the Lions considering just a couple of weeks ago Trubisky wasn’t even expected to start as we all counted him out in the battle with Nick Foles.
But there was some good news as Adrian Peterson found the fountain of youth again, going for 93 yards on 14 carries. Washington gave up on Peterson but it looks as though Detroit might have finally found a running back they can depend on. Now if they can just figure out how to close out games.
