NFL Power Rankings, Week 2: Cowboys falter, Ravens shine
By Randy Gurzi
It started out as though this was going to be the best start to the season possible for the Philadelphia Eagles. Despite having injuries at running back, wide receiver, defensive end, and all along the offensive line, they jumped out to 17 to nothing lead over the Washington Football Team. Then things completely fell apart as they gave up 27 unanswered points.
Philadelphia simply couldn’t get anything going once Washington had turned the corner. Overall the stats looked great, as Dallas Goedert had 101 yards and a touchdown and Zach Ertz add another touchdown, but the offense fell flat when they are needed the most.
They were especially inconsistent on the ground as they had only 57 total yards rushing. They gave up 80 yards rushing to Washington and while the average per rush was good for the defense, they gave up two touchdowns to Peyton Barber which ended up doing the team in.
Last season, their passing game ended up struggling as they just didn’t have the weapons to get the ball too. They had hoped healthy DeSean Jackson and rookie Jalen Reagor would turn that around and while each of them had their moments, Reagor had only one catch for 55 yards and Jackson had 46 years and only two catchers. This wasn’t for lack of trying as the two of them had a total of 11 targets but the connections just weren’t there.
It’s not time to panic for the Eagles but they weren’t expecting this.
