Mitchell Trubisky threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Miller with less than two minutes to go in the game, which made it 27-23 and the defense held thanks to a little luck in the form of a dropped pass from rookie running back D’Andre Swift.

For Trubisky, the touchdown pass to Miller was his third on the game as he had a very good performance in Week 1. He finished with 242 yards passing with the three touchdowns and added another 26 yards on the ground. It wasn’t that long ago that we thought Nick Foles might push him for his job, but Trubisky came out and played extremely well in the Bears opener leading them to a huge win over an NFC North rival.

Chicago added 149 yards rushing to go along with Trubisky’s performance, as they were very well rounded on offense. The defense did just enough, but they nearly gave it up at the end when Matt Stafford led the Lions to the 16-yard line.

The dropped pass by Swift ended up being a gift for the Bears as it helped them walk away with the win, starting out 1-0 on the young season. What was really the big takeaway though, was the fact that the defense wasn’t up to par but the offense carried them. That’s a huge change from recent seasons.
