Previous: 3rd. New Orleans Saints. 3. team. 15. .

All offseason, the talk was about Tom Brady joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Well, the New Orleans Saints were less than impressed. They had the honor of welcoming Brady to the NFC South on Sunday and Drew Brees and company spoiled his debut with his new club.

The defense forced him to throw two picks, including a pick-six from Janoris Jenkins. They also stifled Leonard Fournette, holding him to just five yards on five carries. As for the other big addition, Rob Gronkowski, he was also a non-factor — pulling in only two catches for 11 yards.

New Orleans rode that defense to a huge win which was pretty impressive. Normally, this team is all about their offense, but in this game, they had just 160 yards passing from Drew Brees and only 17 yards on three catches for Michael Thomas. Still, they did enough as Alvin Kamara had two touchdown receptions and Latavius Murray led them with 48 yards on the ground.

Knocking the Bucs off was huge as it also put New Orleans alone in first place to start the season out. Atlanta lost to Seattle and Carolina was knocked off by the Bears, giving the Saints an early lead in a division that’s expected to be rather tough.
