Arrowhead Stadium was the site of our first post-COVID NFL game as the defending Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, hosted the Houston Texans on Thursday Night Football. The stands were bare compared to what a normal crowd usually looks like for the Chiefs, but worst of all, we lost the ‘Collinsworth Slide’ as Cris Collinsworth and Al Michaels had to keep their distance.
As for the Chiefs, the big takeaway was the incredible face-shield worn by Andy Reid — which resembled my glasses when I step out of my air-conditioned vehicle into a muggy summer day. Seriously, there was no way he could see what was going on the field clearly, but he still was able to lead his team to a beatdown of the Texans which wasn’t anywhere near as close as the 34-20 score would indicate.
What’s even scarier than Reid picking defenses apart with only 50 percent vision is the fact that Patrick Mahomes and the offense didn’t look as crisp as they normally due — which is surely due to the lack of offseason work — yet he still threw three touchdowns. On top of that, Clyde Edwards-Helaire had a monstrous debut, ripping off 138 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries.
Kansas City is the defending champions for a reason and they started out this season about as well as a team could, meaning they keep their spot atop our 2020 NFL Power Rankings until someone can knock them down a peg.
