NFL Power Rankings, Week 2: Cowboys falter, Ravens shine
By Randy Gurzi
Joe Burrow was looking to be the first No. 1 overall pick to win his debut since David Carr back in 2002 and he came close. The Cincinnati Bengals made it close against the Los Angeles Chargers but fell just short by a score of 16-13. What made it even more heartbreaking was how it happened.
After falling behind 16-13, Burrow led the Bengals on a long drive and he even threw a pass that looked it could have been a game-winner. He hit A.J. Green from three-yards out but the play was waved off as Green was called for offensive pass interference. After that, they trotted out Randy Bullock for a field goal that would have put it into overtime.
However, Bullock — who had made 24 in a row from inside 40 — was wide on his attempt and the Bengals were dealt a tough loss. Making things worse, Bullock also seemed to hurt himself on the play, adding insult to injury.
For Burrow, it was still an impressive debut. He had great poise and led them on a 14-yard play with the game on the line. He didn’t look as though the game was too big for him as he delivered through the air and on the ground.
With a little more seasoning for him and some more tweaking to the roster, this could be a good team in the near future.
