Matt Rhule lost his debut as the head coach of the Carolina Panthers by a score of 34-30 against the Las Vegas Raiders — and there’s surely one play he would love to have back.

With just over a minute ago, the Panthers went for it and on the fourth and inches at midfield, and handed the ball to fullback Alex Armah. Of course, it makes sense to give the ball to your big guy and hope that he can pick up the yard in most cases.

However, it’s a little bit different when you have somebody such as a Christian McCaffrey, an All-Pro who was just given a massive contract extension in the offseason on your roster. In this situation McCaffrey should’ve gotten the ball, but Rhule said he and new offensive coordinator Joe Brady were both on board with the call.

Of course, had the play worked, Rhule and Brady would’ve been called geniuses, but since it didn’t, they will be second-guessed. However, in a moment of honesty, the two would probably both admit that they should’ve given the ball to McCaffrey.

Even so, it’s just one game and the Panthers had a lot to build on. Teddy Bridgewater looked strong and Robby Anderson went for 115 yards and a touchdown. They just have to continue to grow from there.
