Seattle Seahawks: Studs and duds from Week 1 vs. Falcons
By Samuel Teets
Stud: Quandre Diggs, S
Last year, the Seahawks sent a fifth-round selection to Detroit for Diggs. The Texas product became an immediate starter, taking over for Tedric Thompson. During his five games with Seattle, Diggs intercepted three passes and swatted away another three. This year, Diggs is a crucial part of Seattle’s significantly improved secondary.
Despite giving up 450 yards to Ryan and the Falcons through the air, Diggs intercepted a pass and defensed two more. He and Jamal Adams are still figuring out their chemistry, but the two give Seattle its best secondary since the Legion of Boom days.
Dud: L.J. Collier, DE
The Seahawks reached when they drafted Collier with the 29th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. The TCU product suffered an injury last offseason and missed significant snaps during training camp. Collier never fully recovered from missing that time, and he never played a measurable role on Seattle’s defense as a rookie.
In the first game of his second season, Collier made a tackle and recorded one quarterback hit. While that’s a minor victory considering Collier only made three tackles last year, he’s still far behind most second-year players. As he continues developing throughout 2020, I believe we’ll see Collier transition from a dud to a stud.
