Chicago Bears fans must blame ownership for Allen Robinson fiasco
The Chicago Bears ownership proved again they are behind fans’ disappointment.
The Allen Robinson contract dispute has fans of the Chicago Bears pointing the blame game finger in a multitude of directions. Some will blame Ryan Pace and some will blame Matt Nagy. Others will point the finger in the direction of the quarterback. It doesn’t end does it? The blame game in the Windy City, where nobody wins and everyone continues to argue.
The real person to blame is not the general manager, the real person to blame isn’t even the player himself. The Bears faithful should turn their attention to the people upstairs, specifically the ownership group.
Yes the McCaskeys are who should be bearing this blame, in addition to team president Ted Phillips, who since arriving in Chicago is known for making terrible personnel decisions, none of which more egregious than in 2017.
That fateful night in the Windy City when the Bears moved from No. 3 to 2 in order to select North Carolina quarterback Mitchell Trubisky over Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson. Fast forward to 2020 and Watson and Mahomes are at the top of their game making everyone ask why did the Bears pick Trubisky in the first place?
Watson has a heavy contract with well deserved cash, while Mahomes has $500 million, a Super Bowl title and an MVP to go along with it. Trubisky has nothing, except a playoff appearance with a double doink.
It was also reported that the Bears ownership preferred Trubisky over Watson’s accomplished college career and Mahomes’ exciting potential. But some will come out and say “What about the Khalil Mack and Eddie Jackson signings, that was on ownership right?”
Not so fast. It’s true that they got them both locked up and rightfully so. But once again, it’s reverting to the old Bears football which is relying heavily on their defense and keeping the offense in its vanilla medium instead of modernizing.
Not even a coaching change can fix it because the ownership continues to step in the way of the franchise with influencing decisions at certain positions and how the money is to be distributed, regardless of the situation with the salary cap.
Robinson should feel frustrated, even if the situation is now seemingly resolved. He has not had a good quarterback in his entire career, Blake Bortles and now Trubisky. But the blame should not be placed solely on Pace, it has to go towards ownership, who continue to believe that the old ages of the 1920s (the decade in which the Bears dominated) are going to rejuvenate.
That won’t happen, and until it gets fixed, the cold truth and cold weather of the Windy City are going to keep the Windy City Faithful orange with anger and blue with misery.
