2. Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys were picked by many as a Super Bowl contender in the NFC after hiring Mike McCarthy and reloading their pass rush and offense in the offseason. They brought in veteran pass rushers all along the defensive line and made a surprising choice in the first round of the NFL Draft by selecting stud wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.

On Sunday night, they looked ways away from being a true contender as they fell just short against the Los Angeles Rams but many of the same issues from the Jason Garrett era resurfaced. Fans blamed poor playcalling and not putting the ball in Dak Prescott’s hands enough but drops and mental errors were a major factor as well.

Perhaps this is harsh on the Cowboys as they were a terrible offensive pass interference call from being in field goal range and within touching distance of taking the game to overtime at the very least. No matter what the circumstances were surrounding their defeat, it was a tough debut for an offense that many predicted as one of the best in the NFL as they mustered just 17 points against the Rams.

The Cowboys have a chance to bounce back against a Falcons team that put up little resistance to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1. Atlanta’s offense looks to be in good shape but the Cowboys will look to get their offense, and their season, back on track before they travel to Seattle in Week 3.
