NFL Week 2: 5 Biggest questions entering the weekend
The biggest questions entering NFL Week 2 that need to be answered.
The first week of the 2020 NFL season is in the books and not without plenty of excitement, namely in the form of upsets. With teams like Washington and Jacksonville, among others, picking up big upset wins, things look much different right now than they did coming into the year. Yet, that also raises plenty of questions as NFL Week 2 gets underway.
We got the answer to some questions, sort of, on Thursday Night Football as the Browns topped the Bengals, 35-30. Baker Mayfield looked like the 2018 version of himself while Joe Burrow continued to look like a stud. That’s just one game, however.
So as the weekend approaches, these are the five biggest questions looming heading into NFL Week 2.
5. How much better are the Jacksonville Jaguars than we thought?
Going into the season, most had completely written Jacksonville off, assuming that they would tank for the No. 1 pick in 2021 in order to ultimately select Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence. As the season drew closer, this idea was seemingly confirmed as they began trading key players away. They dealt defensive end Yannick Ngakoue to the Vikings and cut running back Leonard Fournette.
However, one week into the season and the tanking talk has dissipated as the Jaguars managed a victory over a legitimate opponent in the Indianapolis Colts. Gardner Minshew continued his underrated career, finishing with a 95 percent completion rate and three touchdowns.
Rookie running back James Robinson also complemented the offense well by controlling the clock, making it so that Minshew only had to throw the ball 20 times. Their upcoming schedule also appears light, with them facing the Titans, Dolphins and Bengals in the three coming weeks, making it a real possibility they could be the AFC South leaders four weeks in.
With it being clear that the Jaguars were being unfairly written off going into the season, the next few weeks should clear up if they are real contenders or simply a below-average team who pulled off a Week 1 upset.
