The Los Angeles Chargers host the Kansas City Chiefs in NFL Week 2 at SoFi Stadium.

The Kansas City Chiefs picked up right where they left off as Super Bowl champions in kick off the 2020 season with a victory. Unfortunately, the Los Angeles Chargers too picked up where they left off last year — even if they got a win. The Bolts will need to look much better in NFL Week 2 as they welcome the reigning champs to the new SoFi Stadium in Inglewood.

Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense didn’t even seem to need to shift into second gear in their opening win over Houston. That, in part, was due to a breakout career debut from rookie running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire. If the young first-round pick can play like that in addition to everything else Kansas City has on that side of the ball, good luck even slowing them down.

Having said that, the strength of the Chargers is their defense, even with Derwin James out for the season due to injury. Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram are a fierce edge-rusher duo and the secondary is deep and strong. The big question for Los Angeles in competing with their AFC West rivals is if Tyrod Taylor and the offense are capable of going blow-for-blow with an elite offense.

Despite the overall upside of each team, Sunday’s matchup between the Chiefs and Chargers could be quite intriguing. While LA’s offense doesn’t appear capable of keeping up with Kansas City, their defense is among the best in the league. So the question becomes if they can slow down Mahomes and that explosive offense.

The Bolts defense should put up more of a fight against the champs than Houston did 10 days ago. At the same time, you can never truly stop the Kansas City attack and, with the Chargers’ lack of overall offensive prowess, it’s hard to imagine them being able to keep up for four quarters — though, stranger things have happened.
