Bold predictions for the Green Bay Packers in Week 2 against the rival Lions.

After an offseason spent talking about all of their missteps and how the Green Bay Packers were set up to regress, Aaron Rodgers led his team to a statement win in Week 1. Tossing four touchdowns and throwing for more than 350 yards, the quarterback appeared to be a man on a mission. And you have to believe that mission will continue into Week 2 when they welcome the Detroit Lions to Lambeau Field.

The Lions had a decisively different start to their 2020 NFL season. Detroit, a team that came in with many believers, jumped out to a big lead on Chicago last week. However, miscues and poor execution in the fourth quarter led to a stunning comeback loss for Matt Patricia’s club. Now they go on the road reeling and hoping to avoid an 0-2 start.

If the Packers have anything to say about it, though, Detroit won’t be getting that elusive first win of the year. And, in fact, Green Bay might be set up to put up an even more impressive performance in Week 2 than the one they opened the year with. With that in mind, let’s make three bold predictions for the Pack on Sunday.

Packers bold prediction No. 3: Defense forces two turnovers

Though much of it admittedly came in the fourth-quarter in what can only be construed as garbage time, Green Bay did allow the Vikings to stay loosely in the mix as they allowed 34 points in the Week 1 win. Now they face a Lions offense that is filled to the brim with weapons and could be dangerous.

After a paltry season-opener, especially in comparison to the offense, I expect a bounce-back game. Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith will get pressure off the edge and the result will be the cornerbacks and safeties taking advantage of an offense pressing to play from behind. In the end, they’ll force two turnovers on Sunday, likely two second-half interceptions to essentially seal another win.

Packers bold predictions No. 2: Adams matches Week 1 performance

People spent all offseason talking about how Rodgers needed a wide receiver other than Davante Adams for the passing offense to work. Adams responded in Week 1 by saying, “does he really, though?” The elite pass-catcher notched 14 receptions for 156 yards and two scores as a dominant force against a rebuilding Minnesota secondary.

But get this: He’s going to do it again versus the Lions.

For as many problems as the Vikes’ secondary has, Detroit may have even more. Adams will likely draw rookie Jeffery Okudah in coverage in Week 2, a player who is making his career debut. It won’t be a kind one as Adams will catch double-digit balls once again for 150+ yards and multiple scores.

Packers bold predictions No. 1: Rodgers goes for 400 yards, another 4 TDs

Adams won’t be the only one building off what he did in Week 1. When the Packers selected Jordan Love with their first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, everyone wondered if the quarterback would be playing this season with a chip on his shoulder. And it sure looked like it in Week 1 — and the safe bet is that chip is still there.

Just like his top target, Rodgers is going to take apart these Lions defensive backs and linebackers. Not only will he match his four-touchdown performance from a week ago but the future Hall-of-Famer will hit the 400-yard mark while completing more than the 72.2 percent of his passes that he did last week.
