The Green Bay Packers face the Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field in NFL Week 2.

While there was plenty of talk about the Green Bay Packers regressing and the Detroit Lions potentially taking a step forward coming into the 2020 season, that’s not the way things played out in the two NFC North teams’ season-openers. And now as they’re set to meet in NFL Week 2 at Lambeau Field, both teams will look to continue changing that narrative.

For the Packers, despite going 13-3 last season, they were being doubted throughout the offseason. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers was said to have lost a step but that didn’t look the case in their opening win as he dominated with the help of his best weapons, Davante Adams and Aaron Jones. If the defense can come around, this team is clearly going to be dangerous and they hope to show that again against Detroit.

Speaking of the Lions, with the return of Matthew Stafford, there were hopes that head coach Matt Patricia’s team would be able to make a big leap forward. Early on in the opener, it seemed that may be the case. But a fourth-quarter collapse dashed those hopes. Now they aim to get things back on track as they head on the road for Lambeau.

Sunday’s game should be critical for both the Packers and Lions. In the case of Green Bay, they got off to a hot start with Rodgers. But with talk of regression, they would love to dispatch another NFC North opponent handily early in the 2020 season.

As for the Lions, they were disappointing in their season-opener after coming into the year with high hopes. If Patricia wants to keep his job — or at least be sure in his position — and optimism is to stay in the Motor City, then Detroit needs to go on the road and avoid an 0-2 start.
