Minnesota Vikings Week 2 Stud: Yannick Ngakoue

In the season-opening loss to the Green Bay Packers, defensive end Yannick Ngakoue didn’t make a terribly huge impact for his new team to begin the year. In Week 2 on Sunday against the Colts, the newest member of the Vikings managed to make a bit more of an impact within Minnesota’s defense, which was a nice thing to see for Vikings fans.

Ngakoue finished the game with three total tackles and two solo tackles, including a strip sack on Indianapolis quarterback Philip Rivers that ended up being recovered by the Colts.

Ngakoue is a key piece to this Vikings defense, especially without Danielle Hunter lining up on the other side of the defensive line for right now while battling back from an injury. It was good to see him starting to get a bit more comfortable with the Vikings on Sunday afternoon in Indianapolis.

Minnesota Vikings Week 2 Dud: Vikings offense

For a second straight week, the Vikings offense didn’t look very good, which is one of the most concerning parts to the slow start for Minnesota in the 2020 season. This Vikings offensive group is returning a bulk of the personnel on that side of the ball, with the exception of wide receiver Stefon Diggs, who is in his first season with the Buffalo Bills after being traded there this offseason.

That means Minnesota should be comfortable with each other on offense, but that hasn’t appeared to be the case through two games this year.

For the most part, the Vikings haven’t been able to sustain drives or put together solid consecutive possessions on offense and the unit looks more one-dimensional than it perhaps expected. Moving forward, Minnesota has to fix things offensively if it wants to get this season back on track going into Week 3.
