New England Patriots: 3 Bold predictions for Week 2 vs. Seahawks
2. Offense won’t be as impressive in Week 2
In the first game of the 2020 NFL season last weekend, New England showcased its new-look offense early and often in the win over Miami.
With Cam Newton taking things over under center, Newton showcased his talents and ability to offer his new team with a different look and feel for the first time in basically two decades. He led the team both on the ground and through the air in the victory, which is the latest example of the duel-threat capabilities of the Patriots this season offensively.
In the game during the Week 1 matchup against Miami, New England finished with 155 yards through the air in the passing game, converting on 15 of the 19 overall pass attempts. on the ground, the Patriots countered with a total of 217 yards on the ground, led by Newton’s 75 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
This offense looks different than what it did when legendary quarterback Tom Brady led the charge of things on that side of the ball, and that was on full display in the season-opener last weekend in Foxborough.
This week in Week 2, however, that won’t be as much of the case for New England on that side of the field. Although it will be important for the Patriots to establish the run and, in turn, open things up in the passing game to balance things out, what Seattle is capable of doing offensively on their side will result in New England having to air things out a bit more.
That will result in the Patriots’ offense not being as impressive or perhaps flashy in the game, relying more via the pass rather than on the ground.
Last week, Seattle allowed the Atlanta Falcons to air the ball out a bit but held the Falcons in check in the running game for the most part. Given the fact that New England has so far shown the ability to thrive solely in the run game, that will mean the Patriots offensive unit might take a bit of a step back this week while turning to the passing attack throughout the game.
