Embarrassment as an Atlanta Falcons fan might just be the understatement of the century.

To sum things up, Sunday’s painful 40-39 loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2 was the first time in NFL history that a team scored 39 points, had three takeaways, zero giveaways and lost. This pretty much sums up the history of the Atlanta Falcons franchise. There are so many adjectives to describe how embarrassing this organization is as a whole.

Other than Bobby Petrino, no prior coach in team history has embarrassed this franchise as much as Dan Quinn. Plain and simple, Sunday’s loss should be and must be the final nail in his coaching career’s coffin.

The fanbase after this inexplicable and heartbreaking loss has to be deeply broken. Nobody wants to hear Quinn’s slogans, idioms or hip expressions that he thinks make him look or sound cool or somewhat intelligent. How on earth can a team lose a game up 20-0 at the end of the first quarter and up 39-24 with 5:35 remaining in the game? It’s not for a lack of talent on this roster.

All fingers point to Dan Quinn for the Atlanta Falcons’ struggles.

This team continues to be so poorly coached in all three phases of the game. There is absolutely zero football IQ on this coaching staff. Well-coached teams do not consistently continue to blow big leads. The Falcons are such a poor situational football team, which they continue to prove after the first two weeks of the season.

Dirk Koetter refuses to run outside zone, refuses to run the up-tempo no-huddle offense and continues to run play-action pass plays very seldom for some inexplicable reason. Raheem Morris’ defense continues to get torched on a weekly basis throughout the first two games. Against Dallas, they gave up a whopping 570 total yards, with 445 of them in the air.

Three defensive starters were injured during the game and did not return — Takk McKinley, Foye Oluokun and Ricardo Allen. Not that this an excuse by any means. The Falcons had one sack today and put zero pressure on the quarterback in the second half. Their lack of depth showed in the second half when all three of the above players did not return to the game.

Morris’ man schemes continue to be so maddening and head-scratching. The secondary continues to play zone coverage and gave the Cowboys receivers way too much space in the second half.Oluokun was a stud today before he exited the game. He tied an NFL record with three forced fumbles in the first quarter, three of which the Falcons recovered.

Special teams coaching continues to be a disaster as well. No special teams unit should know to not let the ball roll for more than 10 yards before they can pounce on it and maintain possession.

The entire Atlanta Falcons coaching staff continues to look inept, unprepared and completely outclassed week after week. This goes back to the first half of the 2019 season.

For some reason, Arthur Blank continues to give Dan Quinn the benefit of the doubt and a free pass. If he has any logic and any care for the fanbase, he needs to do the right thing once and for all.
