New England Patriots: Studs and duds in Week 2 vs. Seahawks
Studs and duds from the New England Patriots close loss to Seattle in Week 2.
The New England Patriots came into the Week 2 slate of games in the 2020 NFL season with the hopes of sticking with a tough NFC opponent while riding high off of a season-opening victory in Week 1.
On the national stage of Sunday Night Football on the road against the Seattle Seahawks, the Patriots had a chance late in the game to pull out an impressive victory to improve to 2-0 overall, but instead fell one yard short of being able to pull off an upset at CenturyLink Field in Seattle.
After getting stuffed at the 1-yard line in the final seconds of the game, New England fell to Seattle 35-30 on Sunday night in Week 2, but come out of the game with a lot of positives of sticking with a top-notch NFC squad like the Seahawks.
In the game, New England and Seattle went toe-for-toe nearly the entire game, with the Patriots putting them in position to even pull ahead at the final buzzer against a team that is really hard to beat on their home field.
New England started the game with a solid defensive stand that ended up with a pick-six to jump out ahead early, ending the first quarter knotted up with Seattle 7-7 with one quarter left until halftime. The two squads went into the break once again tied, with each team scoring one touchdown to carry a 14-14 contest into halftime.
In the second half, Seattle jumped out to a lead early in the half while New England made a late push to come back. The Seahawks outscored the Patriots 14-3 in the third quarter, but New England responded with a 13-7 advantage in the final quarter to narrow the contest.
In the final seconds, Cam Newton was stuffed at the one-yard line with a chance to win the game, resulting in the Patriots falling to the Seahawks in a high-scoring 35-30 game in Seattle.
With the loss, New England drops to 1-1 overall on the season and is now 0-1 in road games this season. With the win, Seattle improves to an undefeated 2-0 on the year and improves to 1-0 at home in 2020.
The Patriots will try and get back to their winning ways in Week 3 when they return back home to Foxborough to take on the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday afternoon. The Seahawks will have another tough matchup against an NFC opposition next Sunday evening in Week 3, hosting the Dallas Cowboys in Seattle.
