NFL Power Rankings, Week 3: Packers, Ravens set dominant tone
By Randy Gurzi
It wasn’t quite 28-3 but Atlanta Falcons fans once again sat through a terrible meltdown. In their Week 2 matchup with the Dallas Cowboys, Atlanta was dominant in the first 15 minutes as they forced four fumbles and recovered three of them. They used that formula to go up 20-0 and it looked as though they had it won easily.
However, Dallas continued to fight back and Atlanta found themselves making the mistakes at the right time. The biggest for them came when they were up 39-37 with just under two minutes remaining. That was when Dallas attempted an onside kick and the Falcons inexplicably watched the ball spin until the Cowboys jumped on it.
The rule is that the ball has to travel 10 yards before the kicking team can touch it. But there is no rule for when the receiving team can touch the ball and rather than picking it up and ending the game, they watched it and waited for the ball to travel 10 yards before making a move.
That wasn’t the only thing that lost them the game as their inability to capitalize for 60 minutes on Dallas missing two starting offensive tackles and a lack of coverage on Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb was equally as devastating.
Right now, head coach Dan Quinn has to be beyond frustrated as his team is moving the ball effortlessly this season but now find themselves 0-2 on the year.
