NFL Power Rankings, Week 3: Packers, Ravens set dominant tone
By Randy Gurzi
There’s just something about Thursday Night Football that Baker Mayfield really likes. He made his debut on Thursday back in 2018 when he filled in for an injured Tyrod Taylor and promptly led the Cleveland Browns to a win over Sam Darnold and the New York Jets. Now in his third season, he found himself coming into Week 2 facing a litany of criticism and this time had another young quarterback opposite him on Thursday Night Football in Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals.
It didn’t take long for Mayfield to quiet the doubters as he was dealing from the first snap of the game. He picked apart the Cincinnati defense and outside of one ill-advised interception, he played a nearly flawless game.
This was much-needed not only for his psyche, but the Browns needed it as well following the beatdown they took at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1. Not only was Mayfield on it, but both Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt were great and head coach Kevin Stefanski proved he can call a great gameplan.
Now, with all this being said, they did beat a winless team but, in the NFL, that’s what you have to do — win the games you’re supposed to. This has been a problem in the past for the Browns but they finally looked competent in this one as they took care of business.
