NFL Power Rankings, Week 3: Packers, Ravens set dominant tone
By Randy Gurzi
The Kansas City Chiefs won on Sunday but still fall one spot in our 2020 NFL Power Rankings. The reasoning for that isn’t anything they have done because they still look like the same team that won the Super Bowl a season ago. Sure, Patrick Mahomes took a while to get going but when the Chiefs needed him to come through, there was never a doubt he would. Still, they haven’t been as impressive as the Baltimore Ravens, who simply leap-frogged the champs.
This isn’t meant to knock Kansas City by any means. They’re 2-0 and they got the job done in a game that turned out to be tougher than they expected. In the Los Angeles Chargers debut at SoFi Stadium, they started rookie Justin Herbert and he had 311 yards and had the Chargers on top for much of the game.
Mahomes and the Chiefs fought their way back and sent it to overtime. They had a clutch fourth-down conversion and overcame a penalty and a timeout called as Harrison Butker kicked to still send the game-winning field goal through the uprights.
They’re still the team to beat and until someone does knock them off that will remain the case. Having said that, these power rankings are all about how teams are playing now and no one is playing better than the No. 1 franchise.
