We have a new No. 1 team in our 2020 NFL Power Rankings and not because the previous top team lost. And not even because the Kansas City Chiefs needed overtime to beat Los Angeles. Instead, the reason for the change is how easy this team has made it look.
In back-to-back weeks, the Baltimore Ravens have gone out looked miles ahead of the competition. Lamar Jackson threw it all over the Cleveland Browns in Week 1 as they knocked them off 38-6. They won that game mainly through the air and with a suffocating defense that made life miserable on Baker Mayfield and the offense. Then in Week 2, the running game got going against the Houston Texans — and the defense remained nasty.
Baltimore finished with 230 yards on the ground and with all the attention being paid to Jackson, Mark Ingram, and rookie J.K. Dobbins, it’s easy to forget about Gus Edwards who led them with 73 yards on 10 carries.
Ingram added 55 yards and a touchdown while Jackson went for 54 yards. Dobbins was the low yardage guy on the day with 48 yards on two carries — one of which was a 44-yarder.
As impressive as the offense is, their defense is just as scary. They sacked Deshaun Watson four times and harassed him on countless other plays. Again, this is no disrespect to the Chiefs but no team has looked as good as the Ravens have these first two weeks.
