NFL Week 2 winners and losers: Falcons, Russell Wilson and Dolphins fans
By Zach Cohen
NFL Week 2 Winner: Eagles’ PA system
Philadelphia sports fans are an interesting bunch. Pair that with the vocalness of football fans and you get some pretty vibrant responses from crowds during games. As you may know, there aren’t fans at most games, including at the Eagles’ home, Lincoln Financial Field.
That’s why, after Carson Wentz and the Eagles failed to convert on a third-and-5, the automated crowd noise started booing the team as they trotted to the bench. Whoever mixes the audio at the stadium, that person deserves a raise.
NFL Week 2 Loser: MVP Voters
I know it’s early in the season, but if the season ended today (you never know with COVID-19) there would be quite a few leaders in the clubhouse. Russell Wilson has looked spectacular. Could this be the year he finally gets an MVP vote? Aaron Rodgers has been playing like his vintage self. And you can’t count out recent MVP winners Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson this early.
The one to keep an eye on: Kyler Murray, who is quickly making his case for the award after winning Offensive Rookie of the Year last season. If these five guys keep it up, we could be in for a tough MVP vote by the end of the season.
NFL Week 2 Winner: Onside kicks
This goes hand-in-hand with the Falcons, though this is more geared to the Cowboys. This kick would have made soccer legend David Beckham very proud. It’s even more beautiful with how rare successful onside kicks are these days in the NFL. Unless you’re Younghoe Koo.
NFL Week 2 Loser: Dolphins fans
And not just because they lost. South Florida weather isn’t exactly the best for early-season football. Fans either have to endure blistering heat or rain. Fans on Sunday dealt with the latter. It’s bad enough that Dolphins fans have to wait for Brian Flores to put Tua Tagovailoa in.
Then, they had to watch Josh Allen tear up Miami’s defense while getting poured on. Then, they had to wait for the power to go on. (This impacted Dolphins’ fans everywhere as well because CBS couldn’t air the game during that time.) Then, they had to wait 30 minutes until a weather delay subsided, only for Miami to fall to Buffalo, 31-28. It wasn’t a great day to be a Dolphins fan.
