The biggest questions entering NFL Week 3 that need to be answered.
The second week of the 2020 NFL season brought extremely high highs but also low lows. We saw many great storylines emerge, with rookie quarterback Justin Herbert almost taking down Patrick Mahomes in his debut game.
However, we also saw some of the league’s stars go down with an injury, with both Saquon Barkley and Nick Bosa suffering season-ending injuries. And Christian McCaffrey is also sidelined for multiple weeks with a high ankle sprain.
With all these developing stories, it is clear that many of these teams have different outlooks than they did one week ago. With that being said, here are the biggest questions heading into NFL Week 3.
4. Can the rookie quarterbacks continue their hot streak?
On Thursday Night Football in Week 2, we were treated to a spectacular performance by Joe Burrow, who completed 37 of 61 passes for 316 yards and three touchdowns. In the end, the Bengals were bested by the Browns and are now looking at an 0-2 record two weeks in.
However, Burrow has a chance to continue his streak and get into the win column in Week 3 against a disappointing Eagles team that has yet to show any signs of life on the offensive side of the ball and has a soft secondary that Burrow should be able to do with as he pleases.
Justin Herbert also put on a performance in Week 2, making his NFL debut due to quarterback Tyrod Taylor being a last-minute scratch. Herbert went 22-of-33 for 311 yards and a touchdown, with his only real rookie moment coming on an interception on a short third-down play where he opted to chuck the ball downfield instead of easily running for the first down.
In Week 3, the Chargers get a light matchup against the Carolina Panthers without Christian McCaffrey. Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn has yet to commit to Herbert as their starter for Week 3 but it is inevitable that Herbert will eventually take over the starting role — and Taylor doesn’t appear healthy for Sunday either.
Combined with their strong defense and other offensive weapons, if Herbert is able to perform as he did in his debut, the future for the Chargers is bright.
