The Carolina Panthers should end up being the team to draft Trevor Lawrence.

All offseason when it came to the Trevor Lawrence sweepstakes, the Carolina Panthers were rarely mentioned in that conversation. Fast forward to Week 2 and the Panthers sit at 0-2 with star running back Christian McCaffrey expected to be out for a period of time with a high ankle sprain.

Though Teddy Bridgewater is the starting quarterback, head coach Matt Rhule was brought in to Carolina to reshape the culture and to build the franchise back to credibility. Plus, he should also have the opportunity to draft his own quarterback to build around.

Luckily for him, there just happens to be a quarterback right in his backyard that is ripe for picking, if indeed he wants it.

Trevor Lawrence is the franchise-changer the Panthers need.

This plan seems out of left field because, in order to land Trevor Lawrence, the Panthers would almost certainly have to land the No. 1 pick. With the Jets and (likely) the Jaguars already in the race themselves for that pristine opportunity, it would be extremely difficult to pull off.

Still, the prospect of having Lawrence as the franchise prospect is both tantalizing and worth the risk. If you are not going to tank, at least be prepared to mortgage a boatload of draft picks and resources if indeed that is what you are willing to follow through with.

For those who wonder whether or not Lawrence would fit in the system, you need not worry. His measurables will translate to today’s game, plus his mobility is what coaches covet in the NFL today as they move from the standard drop-back quarterbacks that once dominated the game and are relics in the current structure.

Carolina need not look far to find proof as their division is full of those guys in Tom Brady, Drew Brees, and Matt Ryan.

Moreover, they originally had that in Cam Newton before an organizational issue forced the former No. 1 overall pick to leave town and end up in the care of Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots.

Next. NFL picks, score predictions for Week 3. dark

Panthers fans, you don’t have toTtank for Trevor. But if he indeed is someone that you would want to be the hometown hero and lead them to a Super Bowl title for the first time in history, start preparing your packages.
