Chicago Bears: Key players who must step up for Week 3 win vs. Falcons
3. Chicago Bears pass rushers dominates
One of the keys to the Chicago Bears victory in Week 2 was seeing how the defense’s “Three Amigos” aka Khalil Mack, Akiem Hicks and Robert Quinn, put pressure on the quarterback. The Giants had two turnovers (and should have been three), a fumble lost and an interception thrown. Both of those turnovers came on the pressure exerted by those three players.
Week 2 was the first time the three got to play together in a game. In addition to the pressure put on Jones, each player recorded a sack. It was a pretty good debut for the three.
If the Bears shut down Atlanta’s run game early they will have a lot of chances to go after Ryan. He’s thrown 90 passes in the first two games of the season and without a real rushing attack, he’ll continue to throw the ball around.
The pass rush needs to get to Ryan. Knock him down a few times and make him uncomfortable. The Bears secondary is a strong one so if the pass rush does its job we could see a dominant defensive performance. While the Three Amigos are important for that, Mack needs to lead the way and enforce his will on the game.
We’ll get to see how good the Bears’ new trio of pass rushers could perform. With a healthy Hicks and Quinn replacing Leonard Floyd, Mack can continue to wreak havoc without having to deal with constant double and triple teams. While he only has one sack so far, he’s recorded 11 pressures already. The sacks will come if he continues to put that pressure on the quarterback. This Falcons offensive line won’t be able to handle the Bears’ constant pressure. They’ll wilt and Ryan should have a long day.
Prediction: The Bears finish with four sacks on the day and force three turnovers. Mack gets two of those sacks.
