New Orleans Saints: Studs and duds from Week 3 vs. Packers
Stud: ILB Demario Davis
Despite earning All-Pro honors a year ago in his second season with the organization, New Orleans Saints’ linebacker Demario Davis remains somewhat underrated. The 2012 third-round pick of the New York Jets has bounced around the league via trade and free agency and remains one of the game’s more versatile defenders.
On Sunday night in the team’s loss to the Green Bay Packers, only safety Malcolm Jenkins led the club with nine tackles. Davis was tied for second with seven stops and had the only sack of Aaron Rodgers. It’s been a rough few weeks for Sean Payton’s team but the nine-year veteran was a bright spot for Dennis Allen’s unit on Sunday.
Dud: Secondary
There’s not a shortage of names and talent in the New Orleans’ secondary but this group really hasn’t jelled so far this season. That remains true after Green Bay Packers’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers had his way with the Saints on Sunday night. And Dennis Allen’s defense had its issues in the 37-30 home loss despite the fact that wide receiver Davante Adams wound up not playing Sunday night via a hamstring issue.
Rodgers threw for 283 yards and three scores without an interception and burned the likes of Chauncey Gardner-Johnson and P.J. Williams. Veteran safety Malcolm Jenkins led the team with nine tackles on Sunday night but the Saints were credited with only one pass defensed all night.
