NFL Power Rankings, Week 4: Seahawks, Packers keep surging
By Randy Gurzi
Sure, Doug Pederson has a Super Bowl ring, so it’s not often that he gets questioned. Having said that, he made a very interesting call on Sunday as his Philadelphia Eagles finished with a tie in their game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
In overtime, with the score tied up at 23, the Eagles were running out of time. There was 18 seconds left and they were facing a 4th and 12. Instead of kicking the 64-yard field goal, with nearly no time left, they elected to punt the ball to the Bengals, surrendering themselves to the tie.
Surely, they were concerned with the Bengals being able to return the kick but there’s also just as good of a chance that Jake Elliott would have made the kick. It would have been worth a try considering the team was 0-2 and could have used a win, but instead they now enter Week 4 still looking for their first win.
They’re also trying to figure out what’s wrong with Carson Wentz. Their former No. 2 overall pick has had at least two picks in all of the team’s first three games which has been a major problem for a guy who usually is much more careful with his passes. Until that gets fixed, this could continue to be a rough season for the Eagles.
