NFL Power Rankings, Week 4: Seahawks, Packers keep surging
By Randy Gurzi
This was actually a really big win for the Detroit Lions and Matt Patricia. They lost a close one in Week 1 to the Chicago Bears and then were dealt a humiliating 42-21 loss in Week 2 against the Green Bay Packers. With those two losses in their back pocket, it wouldn’t have been a stretch to predict they would come out looking defeated in this one.
However, that wasn’t the case. Instead, the Lions got back to work on Sunday, taking it to the Arizona Cardinals. They were efficient on offense and their defense was opportunistic. Facing the explosive Kyler Murray, they were able to force two first-half picks and had one more in the second half.
Detroit did end up losing their lead in the third quarter as Arizona scored on an Andy Isabella touchdown late in that period. In the past, this could have spelled disaster as they have surrendered some late-game leads under Patricia. This time though, they kept it together.
Not only did the Lions keep Murray and the Cards from scoring again, but they were also able to tie things up with a field goal from Matt Prater near the midway point of the fourth and then hit one more as time expired to secure their first win of the season.
