It’s hard to argue with Anthony Lynn’s logic. He wants to return to Tyrod Taylor as the starting quarterback when he’s healthy even though Justin Herbert has been great in his two starts. No, they haven’t won, but the rookie has thrown over 300 yards in each of his first two games and he had them in a position to win each time.

This week, they were trailing 21-16 and he marched them 80 yards in 10 plays and then hit Keenan Allen on a hook and lateral that could have gone for a score, had Allen been able to connect with Austin Ekeler on the pitch. Unfortunately, he missed him and the ball was picked up by Carolina, who secured their first win of the year.

So, if Herbert is playing so well, why is it understandable Lynn wants to return to Taylor? Simple — because the Chargers feel guilty. Taylor has missed the last two games after team doctors punctured his lung while trying to administer a pain-killing injection.

Herbert is clearly the better player but Lynn is probably trying to do right by his player — since the team actually caused the injury. The good news though, is that Herbert is looking to be the long-term answer in L.A.
