NFL Power Rankings, Week 4: Seahawks, Packers keep surging
By Randy Gurzi
When it rains, it pours. And it’s a freaking monsoon in Houston. This offseason, Houston Texans head coach and supreme leader Bill O’Brien continued his front office takeover and used his power to deprive his team of arguably the best wideout in the game. He traded away DeAndre Hopkins for a beat-up running back and a second-round pick that they traded for Brandin Cooks.
As expected, the trade has completely blown up in their faces. The Texans have struggled mightily on offense and they proved they’re the only team that can slow down Deshaun Watson. Their receiver by committee approach hasn’t allowed them to move the ball well enough and their ground game was better when they had Carlos Hyde than it is with David Johnson.
Put all that together and they’re now 0-3 to start the season after losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 3. In this one, they had a shot as they were up 21-20 in the final quarter but then gave up a 12-yard touchdown to James Conner. After that score, Watson had three incomplete passing attempts and they punted it away — unable to ever get the ball back as Pittsburgh wasted the final 4:47.
O’Brien has gotten himself all of the power in Houston. Now, we have to wonder how long until the ownership starts to see that was a mistake.
