New York Jets: Stock up, stock down entering Week 4

The New York Jets stock market is crashing as they go into Week 4.

Another game, another loss for the hapless New York Jets. This is getting ugly fast. Gang Green is 0-3 heading into Thursday night’s home matchup with the winless Denver Broncos at MetLife Stadium to kick off Week 4.

Let’s face it — the Jets are the worst team in the NFL. By far. They are embarrassing. This season has all the feeling of the brutal 1-15 campaign of 1996 under Rich Kotite. It doesn’t get any worse than that.

As far as this week’s stock report is concerned, let’s just say that it’s far worse than a bear market. It’s a downright stock market crash of 1929 all over again for the New York Jets.

New York Jets Stock Up

Braxton Berrios – The former sixth-round pick of the Patriots (2018) was the lone bright spot for the Jets against Indianapolis. Berrios hauled in a game-high 64 yards on four receptions and scored New York’s lone touchdown (a 16-yarder from Sam Darnold).

The 5-9, 190-pounder showed a lot of grit playing with a balky hamstring but with injuries to Breshad Perriman, Jamison Crowder and Denzel Mims (all missed the game), Berrios turned into Darnold’s go-to guy in this debacle. With a quick turnaround coming, Berrios should be featured again against the 0-3 Broncos.

New York Jets Stock Down

Sam Darnold: In some ways, I feel bad for the former USC star. We may never know his full potential in New York as he continues to perform week after week with a lack of true offensive weapons and a porous offensive line.

His touchdown pass to Berrios was a thing of beauty as he ran for his life before delivering his touchdown toss into the right corner of the end zone. With that being said, Darnold has to perform better. He continues to regress.

The two pick-sixes against him were humiliating against the Colts. The third-year pro fired three interceptions in all and finished with a dismal 53.2 QB rating. For the season, Darnold has three touchdown passes and four picks and owns the worst overall quarterback rating of his young career (70.7).

Adam Gase – The seat continues to sizzle for the beleaguered Gang Green head coach. A loss at home on Thursday could be the final nail in the coffin for Gase and that would be just fine with me. His squad continues to look unprepared and lifeless on the gridiron.

True, there has been a rash of injuries but every team has to deal with them. I never liked this hire in the first place so if the Jets crash and burn against Denver, I certainly would not mind if defensive coordinator Gregg Williams takes over the reins as their new head coach.

Chris Herndon – Another game, another disappointing performance from the University of Miami product. When is he ever going to live up to his “potential”?

Herndon had just three receptions for 21 yards against the Colts and he continues to be a non-factor in Gang Green’s offensive scheme. With all the receiver injuries that have beset this team, Herndon needs to step up in a huge way and he just hasn’t done it. 10 catches for 63 yards on the season simply isn’t going to cut it.
