Patrick Mahomes proves better than Lamar Jackson once again
Patrick Mahomes, once again, shined brighter against Lamar Jackson.
The highly anticipated Monday night matchup between Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson turned out to be a one-sided affair as the Kansas City Chiefs thoroughly handled the Baltimore Ravens to conclude NFL Week 3.
One quarterback held up his end of the bargain while the other failed to make a statement as the reigning Super Bowl MVP outshone the reigning NFL MVP, leading the Chiefs to a 34-20 win in his home stadium under the brightest lights to improve to 3-0 on the season.
Kanas City is now one of seven teams in the NFL that are undefeated through three weeks of competition, primarily thanks to the play of their quarterback.
Mahomes finished the night with 385 passing yards, four passing touchdowns and one rushing score. Jackson, meanwhile, finished with a meager 97 yards passing and one touchdown along with 83 yards rushing but he also had a lost fumble.
Jackson is now 21-3 against all other teams in both the regular season and postseason but 0-3 against the Chiefs. Mahomes, however, is on a run of his own as he improved his stats in the month of September to flawless with a 10-0 record and 32 passing touchdowns.
Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs look virtually unstoppable and unfazed
On top of Mahomes’ elite efforts, the Chiefs defense also looked poised to make a statement. In fact, since Super Bowl LIV, the Chiefs have yet to allow a team to score more than 20 points. Through the last four games since that magical night in Miami, every team that has gone up against the Chiefs has scored exactly 20 points.
The score seemed close on Monday night but, after Baltimore took the lead 3-0 in the first quarter, the big red machine that is Kansas City outscored the Ravens 34-17 the rest of the way.
The Chiefs didn’t even do all their damage through the air, though, as the ground game was also effective. Rookie Clyde Edwards-Helaire regained his confidence with 64 yards on the ground on 20 carries. A vast majority of the runs came at a point when the Chiefs simply needed to run out the clock and preserve a victory.
Kansas City, at this point, looks like there is no way to beat them. The offense is rolling and is multi-dimensional in addition to having Mahomes. The defense is strong and has their own standard And the special teams, while giving up a rare kickoff return touchdown and missing a few kicks, are still operating smoothly. Baltimore, on the other hand, can’t say the same.
