Titans vs. Steelers in Week 4 has been postponed due to COVID-19.

On Tuesday, it was revealed that three players and five staff members for the Tennessee Titans had tested positive for COVID-19. That shut down the team’s facilities until at least Saturday, which immediately raised questions about their Week 4 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers. And sure enough, we have some answers about that game, namely that it won’t be played on Sunday.

As first reported by ESPN’s Dianna Russini, the Titans vs. Steelers matchup in Week 4 has been postponed from Sunday. Russini also reports that the league is looking at every possible option for the two teams to play, including playing as early as Monday in Week 4.

Russini notes that the makeup date for this game will depend on the COVID-19 tests and the subsequent results over the coming days. But according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the early signs there are good. On Wednesday, one more Tennessee player tested positive but no one else on that team or with the Minnesota Vikings — who Tennessee played in Week 3 — which gives the Vikes no positive tests.

The Titans vs. Steelers matchup could be played as soon as Monday night.

If things continue to progress well with the ensuing tests, we should see the Titans vs. Steelers postponement not last long at all. In fact, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, the game could be played on Monday or Tuesday as of right now. Simply put, the league clearly wants to get this matchup in as soon as possible.

Forging into the 2020 NFL season in the midst of a pandemic, a postponement was always possible. So it shouldn’t be a shock to see the league so seemingly ready to handle it and get the makeup date in as soon as possible. Of course, it’s interesting given the two teams in this matchup.

The Titans and Steelers come into this game as two of the remaining undefeated teams, sporting 3-0 records. Having to play on Monday or Tuesday — especially with Tennessee not being in the building until Saturday — changes the buildup but it also gives a shorter recovery time for Week 5 if they play on one of those dates.

Things have been developing quickly with this story but, as we see more test results come in, we should get more clarity about when the Titans vs. Steelers game will actually be played.
