New York, New York a sad song with Jets and Giants

The Jets and Giants share both a stadium and levels of disappointment.

The bright lights, the big city, Broadway; all the ingredients that help make New York City a valuable tourist attraction. When it comes to sports, however, and football in particular, you had best turn yourself away. Especially with what was displayed in the last two weeks by the Jets and Giants

Both the New York Giants and the New York Jets got embarrassed by the same team and in the same stadium in back-to-back weeks. They, as the New York folk would say “stunk on ice”.

In back to back weeks, both teams have let an injury-depleted San Francisco 49ers outscore them both by a combined score of 67-22 (31-13 vs. Jets, 36-9 vs. Giants). In addition, both teams are 0-3 for a combined 0-6 city; plus, both have ranked 31st and 32nd in total offense. There is no need to discuss the defense because, simply, it’s bad.

One is led by a disciple of the Bill Belichick coaching tree and the other is led by someone who is only known for his short stint with Peyton Manning.

It may not be fair to criticize Joe Judge in his first season but how many hoodie disciples have done well since leaving Foxborough? Not many. In the case of Gase, the Jets still continue to be the same disaster and, as a result, the team is spiraling out of control.

The Jets and Giants are singing a sad tune for New York

The team that actually plays in the state of New York, the Buffalo Bills, is undefeated. They, unlike the other two who actually play in New Jersey, are a true look of how football in New York should be played.

The Giants and the Jets, meanwhile, are still clinging to their old championship memories. The Giants have only made the playoffs once since that run in 2011 and they got bounced out in the first game, largely due to a receiving corps basking in the Miami yacht scene.

The Jets? 1969 was the last time they came through and their two AFC title game appearances were last decade. Since then, a total of zero playoff appearances and have been at the center of many national jokes.

The weather is already cold enough in New York City and fans have to wonder why is it that they always have to look forward to the bright lights in Rockefeller Center or the Thanksgiving Day parade for some sort of pleasure in the wintertime? Why can’t football bring them joy?

The answer is simple, the fish rots from the head down and, until it gets cleaned, the smell will regurgitate. Does that mean getting rid of the owners? No. It means that the right people must be hired to do the right job or heads will roll. The media is already tough on New York and it will only get tougher if this continues with the Jets and Giants.
