The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking more like a contender with each passing week.
Throughout their storied history, the Pittsburgh Steelers have always considered themselves as contenders for the Lombardi Trophy. With six titles to their tally, Pittsburgh has won with different styles of play in addition to different players. Now in 2020, the Steelers are 3-0 while brimming with confidence.
Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is back in the saddle after missing a majority of last season due to an elbow injury. Wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster is looking more and more like the second-round draft pick that was invested in him. And the running game is operating at a smooth level with James Conner and Benny Snell.
As for the defense, they are flying around while resembling their championship predecessors and having fun while at it. Devin Bush Jr. looks like the best linebacker on the team, Cameron Heyward has proven to be a vital veteran presence and Minkah Fitzpatrick is showing why the team was willing to give up a first-round pick to land him. And who could forget T.J. Watt after a spectacular performance against Houston?
The Pittsburgh Steelers are built to contend in the 2020 season.
In the AFC North, fans wondered all offseason about what the Baltimore Ravens would do to take the next step with Lamar Jackson. They also wondered how frisky the Cincinnati Bengals would be with rookie Joe Burrow at quarterback. And, of course, the Cleveland Browns and their roster talent were looming.
Lost in all that, however, was Pittsburgh looming after an impressive season last year as they narrowly missed the playoffs despite not having Roethlisberger and having subpar quarterback play replacing him.
Still, people seemed to be sleeping on the Steelers. But now they sit at 3-0 and, though their Week 4 game against the Titans has been postponed, what they’ve shown to this point has been eye-popping and a recipe for success at the highest level in the league.
The last time the Steelers won the Super Bowl was in Tampa Bay. This year, once again, the Super Bowl is in Tampa Bay. History can repeat itself and the Steel City is hoping that it does in their favor. As of now, the Steelers are doing their part to make that so.
