The Dallas Cowboys can save their season with these free-agent additions

Heading into Week 4 of the 2020 NFL season, the Dallas Cowboys are sitting at 1-2. They have two losses by a combined 10 points to the Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks — both of whom are expected to be playoff contenders this season. That doesn’t excuse losing the close games but it does mean they’re not as far off as their record might indicate.

Instead, Dallas is a team that seems to be a few pieces away from a winning ball club. On offense, they’re able to move the chains with ease at times, but then they have the occasional mental mistake that results in a flag and loss of yardage.

On defense, they can make some solid plays here and there — evidenced by them slowing down Julio Jones in the win against the Atlanta Falcons — but when they need a key stop (see Seattle after going up 31-30 in the fourth quarter), they fail to deliver.

With all that being said, we look over their roster and identify three positions of need and match them up with available free agents. Here we have four guys the Cowboys can sign now, to save their season.

No. 4: Ron Leary, Guard

The Dallas Cowboys kicked the tires on Ron Leary recently and it would have been a good idea. Their offensive line has been in shambles and while the guards have played well, their tackles are a mess with Tyron Smith, La’el Collins, and Cameron Erving all struggling with injuries. They have been forced to start Brandon Knight and Terence Steele but things got more interesting when Steele had to leave the Seattle game with food poisoning.

With him out, Dallas kicked right guard Zack Martin out to tackle and they immediately scored. Martin, who played tackle at Notre Dame, is more than capable of filling in that role until Collins returns but they need to feel comfortable at guard — which is where Leary comes in.

Health has been a concern for Leary throughout his career but should he be able to go in the short term, he would truly bolster their front line.
