4 Free agents Dallas Cowboys can sign to save their season

1. Earl Thomas, Safety
There was a time when I spoke against signing Earl Thomas due to the way things went during the end of his tenure with the Seattle Seahawks and Baltimore Ravens. In Seattle, the final image he gave the team was him flipping the bird while being carted off with a season-ending injury. That was the repayment he gave them for dealing with him holding out and spending more than a year trying to get traded.
Then he landed with the Baltimore Ravens and while he played at a high level in 2019, he ended up being released after punching teammate Chuck Clark — and that apparently wasn’t the first red flag either as the team was pretty unanimous in wanting him gone.
Having said all that, the Cowboys defense is desperate enough to take a chance on Thomas. Their secondary doesn’t have holes, it’s actually just a giant empty space — especially at safety. For years, this has been the case and instead of wasting yet another season of solid offensive play due to their porous pass defense, the Cowboys need to bite the bullet and sign the All-Pro safety.
Could it blow up on them? Maybe. But the fact of the matter is this — we would never really know because it’s not like he could make their defense worse.
