NFL Power Rankings, Week 5: Cowboys free-falling, Bills stay perfect
By Randy Gurzi
It’s easy to understand why the Los Angeles Chargers want to go back to Tyrod Taylor when he’s healthy, but it’s not as if they really can anymore. The reasoning is simple, they injured him when a team doctor punctured his lung. But with him out, Justin Herbert has proved to be light years ahead of him.
Taylor has always been a respected game manager but he’s not someone who can really stretch the field. Herbert, on the other hand, can do exactly that. He’s been routinely tossing it for around 300 yards and had another 290 with three touchdowns on Sunday while going toe-to-toe with Tom Brady — after holding his own against Patrick Mahomes. It wasn’t enough to get them the win, but he keeps proving he belongs in the NFL.
And he might have been able to pull off the upset this time if he had any help from the ground game. Herbert rushed for 14 yards, which was a team-high. They did lose Austin Ekeler and it could be a season-long injury for him, which will really hurt the Chargers going forward.
Still, the good news is that they do have their quarterback of the future. They now just need to build around him and figure out what to do with Taylor.”
