NFL Power Rankings, Week 5: Cowboys free-falling, Bills stay perfect
By Randy Gurzi
Only in the NFC East does a 1-2-1 record seem insurmountable. But the Philadelphia Eagles found a way to steal a win in San Francisco on Sunday Night Football and that record is enough for them to be in first place as they are now slightly ahead of the Washington Football Team and Dallas Cowboys who both fell to 1-3 on the day with their losses.
For the Eagles, it had to feel good to get the win but they’re not out of the woods yet. They struggled against the San Francisco 49ers who were without starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and while Nick Mullens struggled enough to get benched, the Eagles still needed a late fourth-quarter touchdown from Carson Wentz to Travis Fulgham to take the lead. Then a pick-six from linebacker Alex Singleton put it out of reach.
Although, even with the 25-14 lead after the defensive touchdown, the Eagles still needed to recover an onside kick after stopping a two-point conversion to kill the 49ers remaining timeouts. Then, they needed one final defensive stop.
With all that being said, they’re in good shape because of their division but to think they’re where they want (or need to be) would be wrong.
